Fourth of July
Happy 4th of July! Hope you are enjoying your summer. I've had a great last week: went biking and hiking in Jim Thorpe with my children, took a day trip to Corning with the family to the glass museum, swimming at my in-laws and a gathering with my family in Frackville where we enjoyed each others company, homemade blueberry merlot and fireworks at the little league field. Today, we are going to a friend's party in Williamsport. So happy for the busy schedule and so many important people to do things with!
Yesterday, however, I attended the funeral of my aunt's father. He was one of those people that you can only remember with a smile on his face. As it turns out, he was a WW2 veteran with several medals of honor. I only found that out after his death. The graveside flag folding ceremony was such a touching of a moment. The officer spoke so tenderly and sincerely to his wife of 64 years, as he knelt in front of her, expressing gratitude for his service. It left such a lasting impression. And also to that generation-how lucky we are to have had them. So as I watch the fireworks, I'll be remember those that made freedom possible.
Happy Independence Day!
